Top 5 Most Popular Online Action/Adventure Video Games

Online gaming is one of the best ways to socialize with new people, test your skills, and have a great time with friends. If you’re not playing one of the many multiplayer FPS games dominating the market, you’re more likely a fan of more immersive games, which offer expansive worlds to explore and activities to enjoy. With the recent burst of popularity from games like Among Us, it’s easy to see why action/adventure video games have so much potential within the online multiplayer landscape.

In an effort to commend our favorite online action/adventure games, I’ve compiled a list of excellent titles that are a blast to play with friends. Every game on this list is a powerhouse of entertainment in its own right, with a variety of gameplay experiences ranging from survival to pure mayhem. Based on a variety of factors, including longevity, current player-counts, and overall fun factor, we’ve made our picks for the most popular online action/adventure video games. If you’re looking to kick back with some friends and explore brave new worlds, you should fire up any of these fantastic online titles. As you can imagine the list was difficult to do so I’ve added different video games genre.

1. Minecraft

When Minecraft was first released in 2011, it took the world by storm. Now, 10 years later, 450 million people have downloaded and tried the game worldwide. In this relaxing and creative first-person adventure game, players must survive in a randomly-generated world by collecting resources, crafting items, and building structures to protect themselves from deadly creatures. For those who aren’t interested in testing their survival skills, there’s also a “creative” mode, which lets you build your ideal structures using a huge assortment of in-game materials. Although the game has been out for nearly a decade, Minecraft sees well over 100 million active players a month.

Thanks to its family-friendly gameplay, easy-to-learn controls, and endless amount of fun to be had, it’s easy to see why Minecraft is so popular. Whether you want to gather up every resource in sight, survive for weeks on end, or just express your creativity, Minecraft has an option for you. With the game available on nearly every system you can think of, it’s easily one of the most accessible and endearing action/adventure video games around. 2. Genshin Impact

Genshin Impact is a relatively new game, but that hasn’t stopped it from becoming one of the most popular online action/adventure games in the blink of an eye. Available on consoles, PC, and mobile, Genshin Impact mixes open-world exploration with intense action-RPG combat as players discover the epic world of Teyvat. Playing as a new traveler in this beautiful yet dangerous world, you must find your twin, imprisoned by a mysterious god. With a variety of characters to choose from and a free-to-play, live-service format, Genshin Impact has lots of replayability. You’ll learn new skills as you unlock different characters, each with their own set of skills.

Whether you’re completing quests or hunting down massive boss monsters, this cooperative adventure is full of action-packed moments. Since the game’s release, there have been over 20 million players on mobile devices alone, with a vocal community sprouting around it. If you enjoy games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and you have a group of 4 players who want to battle together, Genshin Impact is an easy choice. I’ve inserted the article link of my Genshin Impact review.

3. Valheim

Valheim is the newest game on our list of the best online action/adventure games, but there seems to be no stopping its wave of popularity. Created by a small team of 5 developers, this cooperative adventure tasks up to 10 friends with working together to dominate a fantasy Viking world.

Similar to Minecraft, players must collect resources to craft new weapons and gear while also building structures to protect themselves from enemies and wildlife. With a huge map to explore and some extremely tough bosses to find, Valheim will put your skills to the test. Valheim has quickly amassed a fervent fanbase, with over 500,000 concurrent players in February alone. In March of 2021, Valheim reached third place in the most popular games on Steam, only beat out by the massively-popular games Counter-Strike GO and DOTA2. With a rich fantasy vibe, cool Viking themes, and an addictive gameplay loop, Valheim looks like it’s here to stay.

4. Grand Theft Auto V Online

Grand Theft Auto V is a game that needs little introduction. Even if you’ve never played it, you’ve likely heard about it from concerned parents and non-gamers. Set in a fictional region of California called San Andreas, GTAV is jam-packed with a huge amount of content, giving the player total freedom in how they want to experience the world. Although you start off as a lowly civilian, with enough patience, skill, and finesse, you can quickly become an ultra-rich superstar, a deadly gang member, or anything between. While the core of GTAV Online involves completing missions, pulling off heists, and getting into turf wars with other teams, the game has found popularity in several unexpected ways. Some people enjoy playing GTAV Online as a role-playing game, living out their fantasies as a character of their choice.

Whether you want to play as a violent criminal, an upstanding citizen, or anything else, GTAV Online offers those opportunities. Even now, 8 years after the game’s release, Grand Theft Auto V has roughly 200,000 concurrent players monthly, proving that it’s still one of the most popular online action/adventure games available. 5. Rocket League

While there are plenty of shooting, survival, and general action games to play, there’s no game quite as unique or quirky as Rocket League. Originally released on the PlayStation 4 in 2015, Rocket League quickly became one of the most popular action games around before its popularity faded slightly. The concept is simple — two teams compete in a game of soccer, controlling super-powered cars instead of athletes. Although the game saw decent success during its initial years on the market, Rocket League has seen a significant boost in players recently. In late-2020, the game reached 1 million concurrent players, an all-time high for this wacky sports/action title.

It will take a bit of time to master all the game’s mechanics, which encourage players to learn and try strategies.
Despite some frustrations players can get at the beginning, the game is enjoys a massive presence on the eSports scene (over $8 million in prize money awarded already).
Rocket League is free-to-play and almost available on every devices. Challenging, rewarding and free-to-play… So what are you waiting for?
